International Nursing Service Opportunities for LLUH Employees

Loma Linda University Health nursing staff who want to volunteer for overseas mission service are provided with international nursing service opportunities through the International Service Program at the Global Health Institute.

Current Opportunities:

CHINA

Hospital: Dong'e People's Hospital, Dong'e County, Shandong, China

Volunteers Needed: One or two nurses per service trip

When: After March 2018 when the weather is warmer and patient census is lower 

Length of Service: Two weeks or more

Requirements: Approximately three or more years of RN hospital experience, BS degree, Master’s degree preferred. Nurses interested in teaching and mentoring. Willingness to work with an interpreter as most nurses speak only Mandarin or may have difficulty conversing in English. Participation in one or more pre-trip planning video or phone conferences with international site.

Trip Objectives:

 Nursing Leadership and Management

  • Share clinical ladder information
  • Explain how we determine and document nurse competency
  • Discuss how and when to coach and discipline

Nursing Education

  • Demonstrate how to complete a nursing needs assessment
  • Discuss how to complete a nursing education needs assessment
  • Explain the importance of nurse orientation

Nursing Staff Development

  • Describe PA and NP roles in the USA
  • Explain the role of patient relations
  • Consult in your specialty area (e.g. Pediatrics, NICU, ICU, etc.)
  • Assist nurses with their English language skills 
  • and much more! They are sincerely interested in learning from us

Provided:

Dong'e People's Hospital = Room, cafeteria meals, airport transportation in China

GHI = China Visa, short-term travel insurance, 50% reimbursement of economy airfare when flight is procured through FROSCH and pre-approved by Global Health Institute ISP Manager

Self = 50% of airfare and US airport transportation

MEXICO

Hospital: Hospital Del Sureste, Villahermosa, Tabasco, Mexico

Volunteers Needed: One or two nurses per service trip 

When: A mutually agreed upon time  

Length of Service: Two weeks or more

Requirements: Approximately three or more years of RN hospital experience, BS degree, Master’s degree preferred. Nurses interested in teaching and mentoring. Willingness to work with an interpreter as most nurses speak only Spanish or may have difficulty conversing in English. Participation in one or more pre-trip planning video or phone conferences with international site.

Trip Objectives:

Assist with the implementation of Joint Commission International Standards and Patient Safety Goals

  • Assist with policy development
  • Explain implementation process and orientation training
  • Discuss compliance monitoring
  • Assist with staff training 

Provided:

Hospital Del Sureste = Room, cafeteria meals, airport transportation in Mexico

GHI = Short-term travel insurance, 50% reimbursement of economy airfare when flight is procured through FROSCH and pre-approved by Global Health Institute ISP Manager

Self = 50% of airfare and US airport transportation
