Hands-On Risk Management: Tools, Techniques and Real-World Applications

In today’s complex healthcare environment, effective risk management is essential to protecting patients, staff, and organizations from preventable harm, costly claims, and regulatory scrutiny. Participants will learn how to build robust incident reporting cultures, conduct rigorous Root Cause Analyses (RCA), establish effective claims management protocols, and understand their Hospital Professional Liability (HPL) insurance.

Target Audience:
Healthcare risk managers, patient safety officers, quality improvement professionals, clinical leaders, hospital administrators, and staff working in hospitals and clinics. This workshop is perfect for both newcomers to risk management and seasoned professionals.

Learning Objectives:
On conclusion participants will be able to:
1. Apply structured root cause analysis (RCA) methodologies to uncover contributing factors in adverse events and near misses.
2. Implement standardized incident reporting and claims management protocols that ensure timely responses while minimizing legal and reputational risk.
3. Understand your comprehensive hospital liability insurance including coverages, exclusions, retroactive dates, insured responsibilities, covered parties, and additional key details.

 

Ashley Frazier-Morrison, Esquire, MPA

Ashley Frazier-Morrison serves as claims counsel in the Legal Services Department of Adventist Risk Management. She attended Drake Law School and Drake College of Business and Public Administration where she received her Juris Doctor and Master’s in Public Administration with an emphasis in healthcare compliance. She manages claims in Asia, Australia, Mexico, the Caribbean, and parts of the United States. In her free time, Ashley enjoys traveling, writing, and spending time with her husband and family.

Joseph Doukmetzian, Esquire

Joseph Doukmetzian is an attorney with over ten years of experience in the legal and insurance services industries. He provides advice and counsel to church entities with a particular emphasis on insurance claims, coverage issues, and other practical risk management concerns. Joseph currently works at Adventist Risk Management, where he serves as one of the church’s Claims Counsel, handling litigation and insurance claims for Adventist entities in the Western half of the United States and the hospitals and other entities of the South American Division.

Rocio Roberts, AINS, ARM, CPCU, ARe, CPHRM

Rocio Roberts is an Account Executive for Adventist Risk Management, serving various organizations in the South Pacific Division and the Southwestern Union. She has worked for the Adventist Church since 2006, with previous experience in various departments within conferences in the Southern Union. She holds several insurance and risk management designations.
